The Procedure
Photo Facial/Photo Rejuvenation Therapy is often referred to as the "lunchtime face lift." The procedure employs an
intensive pulsed light (IPL) from a light-emitting diode (LED)
device utilizing therapeutic red and infra-red light combined with a gentle restorative massage. The IPL modality penetrates the skin to stimulate cell growth, healing, and repair from below the skin's surface.
Stand-Alone or In Conjunction with Other Treatments
One of the greatest benefits of this 30-minute procedure - unlike laser therapies,
micro-dermabrasion, or plastic
surgery - is that there is no "downtime" afterward. It is perfect for the person unable to take time away from their business or busy social schedule.
Photo Rejuvenation also complements micro-dermabrasion; collagen, botox, and
restylane injection; glycolic and other peels, and plastic surgery. It will also intensify the healing effect of any skin-care product you may
currently be using.
Treatment Regimen
The Photo Facial is a gradual procedure, which initially requires five to six sessions (30
minutes each), at 7- to 10-day intervals. Although clients usually notice a difference
in skin tone, pigment and pore size immediately following their first procedure, it is
imperative the recommended therapy be followed. Maintenance for this treatment
depends upon a person's UV exposure and lifestyle. However, most users return every 30
to 60 days to maintain their new, more youthful appearance.
So How Does It Work?
As we grow older, our cellular metabolism and cellular activity slow down. The time for the cells to move from the lowest layer of the dermis to the outer layer of the epidermis increases by about
five times. As a result, the moisture level in these cells is greatly reduced as we age. OK, so what does this have to do with IPL Photo Facial?
This technology is based upon the fact that our cells are photo receptive and that this capability allows for photo
rejuvenation from within:
- Most of us know that sunlight is a source of Vitamin D for our body.
- NASA, the space organization that spun off industries in Velcro, Teflon and
Tempur-Pedic pillows, was actively involved in developing this technology.
- Studies by NASA scientists were testing intensive pulsed red and infra-red light to help maintain soft tissue (the ligaments in particular) health for their astronauts. During prolonged periods of weightlessness, the body does not act as it does on earth, and they needed to find a way to maintain their health while in space. They found there were medicinal benefits to the red/infra-red light for the ligaments and other soft tissue, but also discovered that it improved the firmness and health of the skin.
- Briefly, the red and IR light penetrate the skin and communicate with the cells. It tells the fibroblast cells, right at the base of your dermis, to produce more collagen naturally and immediately. This helps plump your skin.
It also tells the cells to increase the production of elastin, and to
increase the cellular activity related to healing your skin. All
these actions combine to rejuvenate your skin from the inside out.
